When commissioning a fursuit, you may encounter some new terminology that might be unfamiliar. This page aims to give some information about common fursuit making terminology.

Digitigrade vs. plantigrade

You may have heard these words floating around, as they are quite common when describing the style of a fursuit. In a plantigrade suit, no padding is added to the bodysuit. The shape of the legs will therefore be straight. In a digitigrade suit, the legs are made to resemble animal legs, with stuffing in the feet. This is illustrated with the white space around the body in the figure below.

Similarly, this style can also be achieved in the feetpaws alone when making a partial. The difference is illustrated in the figure below.
